AbstractAbstract. This study is part of a MSc. Dissertation on Remote Sensing, under development at INPE. The test site is a Research Center on regrowth of vegetation from Mata Atlântica, known as CPCN Pró-Mata, located in northeastern Rio Grande do Sul State. The objective of this study is to evaluate the quality of the new high resolution satellite QuickBird in this test-site. A photogrammetric model is used for the orthorectification of the image. Two maps are under preparation. The first one refers to Vegetation/Land use considering object oriented classification techniques, and the second one is the Geomorphological map, obtained by visual interpretation. Statistical analysis will be applied to verify the accuracy of the geometric and thematic data. The maps obtained will be explored in combination, using a GIS. Finally we intend to supply the CPCN Pró-Mata test-site with a Geographical Database with high accuracy maps, providing a support to the environmental preservation within the area of the research center.
